Some help please!
I have an IBM thinkpad 2611 the HD has gone. I Have bought another. However
I am having trouble dissassembling it to replace the HD.
I have removed all the screws from the bottom of the laptop but it still
will not come apart fully.
It seems to be stuck somewhere under the keyboard. I can pry the case apart
just so far but do not want to damage any of the components on the inside.
Any hidden clips? tricks to open the case?.
If anyone has the rescue disks that would be greatly appreciated too.
thx for any reply.

You will need to remove the keyboard to access the HDD on that model.

All the instruction you need is available on the website:

http://www.ibm.com/support/au/

Well, OK you may not be in Oz...just drop the au

Or download the maintenance manual here:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/37l5192.pdf

Look at the FRU removals and replacement chapter for the keyboard.

If you haven't done it before you may find it a bit tricky. Be patient
and you wont break anything.

There are a couple of good newsgroups for laptops: comp.laptops and
comp.sys.laptops.

You should be able to DL any drivvers that you require from the IBM
support site

Hi,
You are approaching the hard drive from the wrong end. Put all the
screws back.

You need to lift the keyboard by first prying up the name plate at
the top right of the keyboard. There are two screws under that which
release the top of the keyboard. The touchpad and keyboard come out as a
unit. There are three ribbon cables that need to be released. This is kind
of fragile.

The hard drive is under that. The hard drive connector is toward
the touchpad and is pried up to swing the bottom of the hard drive up then
it should pull out. Please be careful.
